BARB VURAL
I begin my abstract pieces, whether in pastel, acrylic or oil, by making marks over large color fields. The process is intuitive, with each successive decision evolving with the emerging image. Working in this way, I continue adding layers of media until the surface is rich and complex. With each different texture, pattern, line, shape, and color, the composition and design feel exciting and new to me. At some point as the work develops, the parts come together and the artwork becomes a complete statement.
