MICHELLE DARIN

My jewelry is best described as "Jewelry with Soul". I like this description because it captures the deeper meanings that go into my pieces. Jewelry as adornment goes back centuries. Why has there always been a desire to adorn oneself with decorative pieces? Sometimes it was for a right of passage ritual, sometimes it was funerary, sometimes it was for a celebration of life and sometimes to attract a certain desired outcome. I consider my pieces to transcend decoration and float into the space of talisman. Which is why I also describe my jewelry as bold, handmade, one of kind meets ancient ornamental symbolism. I believe strongly in the power of intention, symbols, and energy. I use various types of metals in my creations. I learned the skills of how to manipulate metal while I studied as an undergrad in sculpture  and in graduate school
where I received my MFA in Metals. Moving from large scale sculpture in steel, aluminum, iron and resin I found my aha moment in Metalsmithing. Creating small scale sculptures to be adorned by the human body became my jam. All the pieces of the puzzle fit together perfectly and I was off. Copper, silver, brass, bronze, steel, aluminum all conductors of energy with various metaphysic properties. How is it that you can put a piece of jewelry on and it can change your mood.? The answer is in the elements. The stones I use also have various metaphysical properties that are known to affect mood as well. I believe in the power of ancient symbols and how the wearer of a combination of symbols, metals, and stones can be made to feel empowered. Empowerment is the name of the game. Take your seat on your throne to personal power and wear some bad ass Jewels while you do it!
